MELBOURNE ARTIST CREATES THE 'STEEL GARDEN'

INNER CITY PROJECT

Client: Landscape Designer

'We had sought out Rosa Mar as she had previously shown her talent as a contemporary artist with ideas rooted in the traditions of the past. Her sensitive approach to our space, the development of ideas and expression of a sense of meaning, underpinned this project.

Our garden’s design (in constant change) plays on the idea of having important elements such as texture, depth, reflection and movement. This was essentially the brief for the ‘Steel Garden’.

This expression was much hampered by many domestic and legal constraints.

What was achieved was a simple tranquility that juxtaposes the hard urban landscape that surrounds this site.

The material itself is a strong reminder of the origins of this site, (steel recycling yard), while the colour, reflective elements and texture allow for the happiness and joy we feel when we are living in this indulgent space. We feel very lucky!'
