Kicking the Leather
MELBOURNE CRICKET GROUND (MCG) ASSISTANT TO ARTIST PENELOPE LEE MELBOURNE COMMONWEALTH GAMES PROJEC
Rosa assisted Melbourne based artist Penelope Lee to create “Kicking the Leather” - three huge ovals made of leather offcuts of old and new footballs that occupy two levels of a concrete surface in the Olympic Stand atrium at the MGC (Melbourne Cricket Ground).
During an 8 month period, Rosa deflated, unstitched, and shredded several hundred footballs to assist Penelope in the creation of her masterpiece.
Rosa has assisted many other established Melbourne based artists, often enjoying the repetitive process driven work.
Working alongside Penelope gave me a true insight into the creation of a large public artwork.
She has since created a significant artwork called 'Great Petition' alongside Susan Hewitt. It was launched on 3rd December 2008 to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of women’s right to vote in Victoria.
